This is our longest trek that allows you to experience the highlights of our tours. As with the two and three day treks, you will have the opportunity to enjoy magnificent views along the Cordillera de Los Frailes, explore the spectacular crater of Maragua and the amazing dinosaur footprints, be struck by the impressive scenery high up along the Pilcomayo River and then onto the marvelous hot springs.
We leave the office and travel with the locals firstly in a micro to the outskirts of Sucre and then in a camion to Chataquila, which sits atop the Cordillera de los Frailes. We visit a lovely stone chapel dedicated to the Virgin and take in the view back towards Sucre. We then begin trekking just after midday down towards the caves that house the rock paintings where we also have lunch. After having learned about their significance we hike further down to the small village of Chaunaca on the River Ravelo where we stay for the night. Here, we have the option of camping or staying in houses of the local community.
After Breakfast and an optional swim, we walk past magnificent rock formations along the river to Socopampa. We cross the river via the suspension bridge and head up past waterfalls and spectacular rock strata with views of the river and the distant Inca Trail. At the top, we look back at the western face of the Cordillera and then on to the amazing Crater of Maragua, one of the most impressive and beautiful landscapes in all of Bolivia. We’ll have the opportunity to stand above La Garganta del Diablo, the waterfall known as the Devil’s Throat, and then enter the cave which is his mouth, La Boca del Diablo. We stay the night in the village of Irupampa in the heart of the crater where we may have the opportunity to observe the famous textiles being created.
We arise at dawn and eat breakfast before heading west to rise up out of the crater and enjoy magnificent views back over the entire crater. Behind the crater, we pass picturesque valleys on the way to the incredible dinosaur footprint site Niñu Mayu where we also have lunch.
After lunch, we follow another large valley with magnificent views past farmhouses and small villages down to the Pilcomayo River and into the huge river bed of Talula where we have a bath in the natural hot springs while watching the beautiful and impressive scenery being lit by the light of the setting sun. We set for camp next to the thermal baths.
After a sleep-in and a last breakfast we take the local transport back through the gorgeus valley of Quilla Quilla and over the Cordillera de Los Frailes and past Cerro Obispo to Sucre.

Hi
we just came back from a few days in Nicaragua with your cousins Quetzaltrekkers…we absolutely loved it, the outfitter’s concept and the treks themselves (see website). So much so that some of us are considering the idea of coming to Bolivia around President’s day w/e. Can you provide some info? Which tour(s) is more advisable for us? What are the pack weights (e.g. amount of water) for each? what about temperature/precipitations in that timeframe (e.g. what gear)? How big of a group do you feel like handling?
Thank you
Nazzarena
