Day 1

We leave Sucre on Saturday morning and head up between the twin peaks on the road to Tarabuco.  We arrive in this beautiful and historic town around mid morning and meet our local guide.

We then head out of town past the cemetery along trails which have been used by the locals for centuries.  As we ascend the valley, we have great views back over Tarabuco, with its mountains and fertile surrounding plains.

Along the trail we learn about the local flora and visit sites where fossils abound.  Our lunch spot is on a ridge overlooking a picturesque and tranquil valley.  After lunch, we meander down into the valley to Pisili, our destination for the day.

The afternoon involves football with the eager local children as well as learning all about village life.  You can observe the famous textiles being created and bread baked in the traditional earth ovens.  You may even have an opportunity to dig potatoes for dinner.

We eat delicious traditional food in the local’s houses and learn about the history and culture in Quechua village life.  The children are willing helpers as we set up our tents for the night.

Day 2

In the morning, we are again fortunate to have their help to pack up before a great breakfast with the family.  Then it’s time to get back on the road.

We return to Tarabuco along a different route through a lush valley, alongside the locals and their donkeys carrying their goods to the famous market.

Once there, you’ll have time to shop around and enjoy this wonderful town before lunch and the journey back to Sucre.

    Condor trekkers,

I am an American student interning in La Paz and am very interested in this trek over the upcoming long weekend. (10/8/11-10/10/11). I am traveling solo and will most likely rent some gear in La Paz. I know this is very short notice but are you running that tour this weekend and/or is there still time to sign up? Looking forward to hearing from you,

    Thanks

    Chelsea
